Requiem For A Dream is another great film, with fantastic editing. The film, for me, is a wonderful example of how the edit can deliver the feeling of certain emotions. Requiem For A Dream seems to use lots of various cuts throughout, rather than it just being quite clean cut.
Speed - The film is sped quickly when the characters have just taken their chosen drugs, demonstrating the high that they are on at the time, slowing down as they come down.
Jump cuts - Allows the user to see all of the process of drug taking and its effects without it being stale and long. Seems to create an uneasy simplicity in it all.
The editor, Aronofsky, does an amazing job of implementing continuity editing. The viewer is not distracted from the cuts, but remains attentive to the intricate details of the each scene. It seems it would be difficult to construct a film using split screens and other editing techniques.
