American Psycho (2000) is most definitely one of my favourite films. I think that not only is it based on an excellent book, but the film is well written, brilliantly acted and well put together.
As I was browsing the internet today, I found a piece of information that I think is incredibly interesting and very relevant. I read that the director (Mary Harron) had the scene where the detective interviews Patrick Bateman three times:
1) Knowing that he committed the murders.
2) Not knowing if he did or not.
3) Knowing that he didn't commit the murders.
These three takes were then edited together in order for the audience not to know whether Donald Kimball, the detective, suspects Bateman or not.
I found this very interesting, and certainly had not thought about this approach before. Certainly something worth thinking about in the future.
